In my opinion Yes and No necessary,let me put this in some context:

The act of believing in god, in first place, follows a basic a premise in the human being. The need to give an explanation to everything that occurs to the world. So many people is not critic of the own social / intelectual environment to question and find the most acceptable answers to everything that ocurs around them.

In contrast and probably represent a minority believing in a religion and in a god per association gives this people inner peace, give you tools to defeat your demons. An example of this Are the vast number cientific of every field believing in god and this people knows perfectly how the world works, yet maybe they don’t know the answer for everything, knows that god is not the force that moves the world in the literal way.
