CMV: As a black feminist, I hate the "Women are scared when they see a man walking towards them at night" talking point.

For me this is just absurd. A black person is statistically more likely to commit a crime and murder me. Ergo following your logic it's ok to be afraid of them because of their skin colour. Personally I think it's not, not even slightly.

Of course it's not okay. But imagine if people told you since early childhood that it's your responsibility to be wary of black people. And if someone happened to be robbed by a black person, people would blame the victim for being so irresponsible. And if you walked home from work in the evening, people would shame you for being so careless. Then you might eventually begin to feel a bit wary around black people, even though it would be utterly unfair and bigoted. That's kinda how some American women feel about strange men. They're raised to think that they need to be careful around strange men because otherwise they're stupid sluts, and this has an effect on how they think.
