CMV: Charity is irrational

I strongly disagree. For example- every year I give a set percentage of my salary to buy malaria nets for in Africa. This is where I give because I believe it has the largest per dollar effectiveness.

And contra your point in 1), I know that I'm not extremely unlikely to ever be in such a bad position that I will either need to pay for my own malaria net or have someone buy one for me. I don't live in abject poverty because I was really fortunate to be born in the US and really fortunate that within the US I was in a position to go to college. I'm not "wealthy" or "rich" but there's essentially no chance I'll ever need that money as much as people in Africa who now have a malaria net. That's just so unlikely that it's not worth seriously considering.

I also extremely disagree with point 2) that implies someone who supported Trump should not receive charity if they need it. This is EVIL thinking in my opinion (no offense). But there's no reason to restrict giving to the US, you can donate to Africa knowing they didn't vote for Trump (although being from another country they might have political beliefs that are further from your politics than even Trump, but that's absolutely no reason to deny them charity).
