CMV: Death is terrifying

Another possibility: your ego dies but your consciousness doesn’t. You no longer identify with a physical body, or a particular set of memories, and you are no longer tethered to a single point in time and space. Instead you become “mind at large,” as Aldous Huxley would put it.

Death will feel like waking up from a dream. When you are dreaming, you only have a vague, fragmented sense of yourself and your surroundings. When you wake up, clarity is returned and you remember who you are and what your life is actually like.

This is what people who have near-death experiences usually report. Their consciousness seems to expand to the size of the entire universe and they remember that they were never really just a body or a particular set of memories, but something much more.
