CMV: Everyday North Koreans share much of the blame for the state of their country.

Would you condemn everyone you know and love to a horrible death so you can save your own integrity?

I'm not pretending you don't have a point there. But (1) the family of conscientious objectors have a moral duty to join in and object and (2) if enough people followed suit, the whole system would come crashing down, since you can only imprison so many people.

In the meantime there's a collective bargaining problem: if only a few people stand up, those objectors get killed. But if everyone stands up (i.e., stops their tacit endorsements of the state) then things change. Which means that everyone who does nothing is propping up the regime.
