CMV: If Portugal's decriminalization of drugs was such a success, it would have been adopted by other nations.

Drugs are extremely politically contentious, it is hard to win elections when pro-drug policy is or has been part of your platform.

I understand this, but it's just confusing that in 2018 it would still be so contentious. Surely at least one party could step up with these statistics and appeal to the reason and logic in subsets of the population? In my country, there are two major parties and both largely have a smug self righteous take on their politics. Everyone believes they're a do-gooder, but neither has any interest on studying scientific data or researching anything to determine what is actually good. It's almost as if their ideals and convictions were passed down to them from Mount Sinai.

The only thing I can think of is that it would not be profitable for those profiting in the current paradigm and they are the ones powering political donations. I feel like this on a lot of issues could be handled better if there was more of a focus on campaign finance reform.
