CMV: It is impossible to fully believe trans people *and* claim that gender is a social construct, without logically contradicting yourself

Consider the human body as hardware, and the brain wiring as the programming that controls the body. It stands to reason there is something governing the function of the testes, of the penis, of the breasts, of the vagina, of the clitoris, and so on. What if this programming of that component of hardware is slightly miswired? The result is the programming tries to communciate with a physical structure that is incorrect, and the result is a segmentation fault ('dysphoria').

By correcting this with physical changes -- hormones and surgery -- we bring the hardware sufficiently in line with what the software is compatible with, and we solve the errors ('dysphoria'). Different degrees of miswiring lead to different degrees of dysphoria and different gender identities.

But only some of the software is different between men and women, the drivers controlling their physical body. Otherwise, they are essentially equal. If two people buy the same exact model of computer, but one installs a driver for a Lexmark printer, and the other for a Canon printer, are they that different, other than being compatible with different hardware? With the caveat that we have no way of changing drivers in the brain right now -- it's just easier to switch to a compatible printer (i.e., physically transition).

So this explains people with dysphoria. What about people who are just 'gender nonconforming' e.g., they have no dysphoria? They are rebelling against a social structure by choosing their gender presentation. That is perfectly valid, of course.

By looking at it this way, you can reconcile the ideas of equality between the sexes mentally without invalidating anyone.
