CMV: Income Inequality Should Only be Addressed From the Perspective of Civil Unrest and Purchasing Power

This is a legitimate concern with legitimate implications for a government's constituents -- why should we make a blanket rejection of that?

I believe that disparity of power is natural and healthy between classes. I believe that if the concerns reach to an alarming level, that people would engage politicians and pressure them to change this situation due to the threat of being voted out of office. The last thing I am advocating for is an aristocratic rule or oligarchy.

I would also argue that income inequality is one of the greatest indicators of a potential revolution. And yes, income inequality can cause a revolution on its own. Also government suppression of citizens through violence, censorship and reduction of civil liberties etc is another reason. Because I think that income inequality is a great and important indicator, I believe that substantial protest and use of the 1st amendment would result in politicians noticing this problem and attempting to resolve it through policy. Furthermore, addressing the causes of economic inequality could very well result in true socialism or communism, which is proven to lead to authoritarian rule in many societies, especially ones with the scope and scale of the US. Because people have different capacities, I believe that income inequality is natural. Do policies exacerbate this like poor taxation laws? Yes. I also think that those should be a mechanism used to address income inequality when the economy is adversely impacted or civil rest is a real threat.

To your second point, I get that there would be incremental wage increases, but the arguments I have seen from Bernie Sanders and AOC purely state that the base federal minimum wage must be $15+. I don't see any distinctions made based on cost of living. https://berniesanders.com/issues/a-living-wage/

You make some good arguments about me jumping to people making moral arguments being stupid. That was not my intention as I don't want to paint everyone in a subgroup as being something. I was also thinking about people being disingenuous for personal gain, which also happens when arguing against raising the minimum wage to $15 Let me give this aspect of your argument some more though.
