CMV: Islam is a horrible religion, and needs to be adapted to modern times or completely removed.

Hi. I'm a 20 year old from Orlando. The shooting happened very close to where I live. I understand the pain and fear that comes with such a crime against our community. I understand the anger and heartbreak from wondering if someone you know was hurt by this fucking murderer.

And then even after you find out everyone is safe, realizing that it doesn't matter. They could have harmed them. Realizing that just one person has the ability to harm so many people in such a short amount of time. It slaps you in the face with just how fragile our world is. It almost makes you hate it? Doesn't it. Like it's some big fucking joke that something so precious can be snuffed out so fast by some fuckwit with a bad idea.

But we can't fix this by giving into that fear, that hate. Hate is what drove that bastard to commit that atrocity in the first place. He wanted to instill fear in us, to make us as fucked up as he is. He let fear convince him that an entire group of people were evil, dangerous.

We can't do the same. Don't let that fucker win. See past the .1% and see Muslims as what they are, people. Not the evil murder, but Americans who practice peacefully, and embody the ideals of freedom that make our country worth protecting. Think of the mosques in our community who do community outreach in underprivileged black neighborhoods. Think of our professors at UCF who continually advance our understanding of science and engineering. Think of all the people effected by your broad strokes, and ask yourself if you think they're all encouraging violence.

We live in a country that strives to protect freedom in all forms. A freedom that can't be taken away because your neighbor wears a white robe or yells for a hate group. But more important than that. We live in Orlando. We live in a city more diverse than half the southern united states. From Puerto-ricans to Indians to Cubans to an enclave of Vietnamese on colonial, we are diverse. Even the hear of our economy, the tourism industry, relies on welcoming people with open arms, whether they're retires from Vermont or Brazilians visiting Disney world.

The shooter wants us to lose these truly American ideals. Lose the ideals of diversity that has made Orlando so great in the first place. Don't let him win. Don't let the fear of Islam he sparks lead us to be just as bad as him, trying to silence things things he disagrees with.

Hate began this atrocity. It won't end it either.
