CMV: Microwaving fish in the office is OK.

I realize now that I mis-worded the title of my CMV. You're right that it's inconsiderate to continue microwaving fish,

if we take it as fact [both] that most people dislike or do not prefer the smell of microwaved fish [and make a big deal about it].

I guess what I was more trying to say is that it's more inconsiderate to dictate what someone else has for lunch than it is to make the office smell like fish.

What I was really trying to get at was this part of my post:

I would NEVER raise a stink (teehee) about it or presume to suggest that not doing so be included in a new employee training manual. The whole stigma seems overly sensitive and busybody-ish

I shouldn't have said, "CMV: Microwaving fish in the office is OK." I should have said, "CMV: Making a big deal out of microwaving fish in the office is overly sensitive and busybody-ish."

Would you consider someone listening to obnoxious country music at max volume all day on their computer speakers to just be one of those things that you have to put up with in a shared work environment also?

Absolutely, yes. That's precisely why I'm making this CMV. I wouldn't tell a coworker to turn down their music. I'd put on headphones. In fact, I work with multiple people who at different times blast music, and I simply don't let it get to me. This morning I've heard Hotline Bling at volume 3 times. Would I choose to listen to that song 3 times before noon? No, but I work with other people so I get over it. I believe it's everyone's responsibility to maintain their own happiness up until the point where someone else makes that impossible, and that includes the responsibility to let some things go. I understand that people can't put on nose-phones, but they can stop allowing their comfort zone to be so small and fragile.
