CMV: My husband wants guns in the house but I don’t feel safe around them

But the way he talks about guns in America make me scared to live there.

America's really not that dangerous. There are some poor inner city neighborhoods where crime is more common. But, everywhere else is pretty safe.

It sounds like your husband is politically conservative. In the US, its fairly common for conservatives to get passionate about guns and insist on owning them as a matter of political principal.

People with these political views will often talk about the need to own a gun in order to protect themselves. But, in reality, gun crime is very rare. Its extremely unlikely that you will ever encounter gun crime unless you're planning to live in certain poor neighborhood of certain bad cities like Chicago, Baltimore, etc. And even in those bad neighborhoods, things really aren't that bad. Just use common sense. As long as you mind your own business and don't walk by yourself at night, its unlikely that you'll be the victim of crime.

As a I said though, everywhere else is very safe. Honestly, certain parts of the UK seem scarier to me. My impression is that you've got some rough areas where stabbings and acid attacks occur. You've also got lots of people who get very drunk and are easily incited to violence because of soccer games. You apparently have a hooligan culture that we don't. I personally feel safer in the US than the UK.
