CMV:People who work “Extra hard” at minimum wage jobs create worse standards for themselves by showing they can and will work hard for no extra compensation.

I just can't help it myself. I have to hold myself to a certain standard. It doesn't really matter to me the standards of the business, position, or industry, I personally hold myself accountable for my performance. This has netted me some dislike from coworkers for the last 10 years in my current position, but still allowed me to progress and nearly double my salary every 2 years. I would say this type of behavior is common, but does not necessarily create worse standards for themselves.

I started in the fast food industry and I would say it already requires a fairly high demand at minimum wage, but still wanted to push myself harder. I don't think I ever saw that it made anything worse for me from the viewpoint of the business itself. I think there are businesses that take advantage of employees, and businesses that treat employees well, regardless of minimum wage. I do not believe this is a trait specific to minimum wage positions however.
