CMV: This pushback against Captain Marvel (and strong female leads) is an artificially manufactured issue created to try to divide people and sow discontent

Empirically determining how many men hate Captain Marvel is pretty hard to determine. Even then, you still need to distinguish between people who wanted to fail vs people who have nuanced understanding of the film. All of which is difficult to answer. We do know that Captain Marvel currently has a 53% user rating (with over 300,000 ratings) with a 79% rotten tomatoes score. We don't normally see this disparity with Marvel films. Thor: Dark World scored a 76% despite not being very critically acclaim. The majority of the users who left low scoring reviews without extended comments are men.

The difference between the new Marvel Movie and other movies with strong female leads is that Captain Marvel is the first movie to place a role that men are used to seeing themselves in. Sarah Conner and Ripley were leads in new franchises while Leia was a support character in Star Wars. Captain Marvel is the first female to take the leading role in an MCU film. Some insecure men feel threatened by that. Of course, this isn't the ONLY criticism somebody can have with the film and I really rather not debate the films merits itself. However, the disparity may be part due to the backlash the film received in particular circles prior to it's release.
