CMV: The /r/sanctionedsuicide ban causes more harm than good

Alas u/TreacheryOfBooks I hardly knew ye:

Well I'm not actually trying to help u/Zombie_Bean specifically. I'm asking for my own edification, to gain insight into how the suicide hotline may be improved.

By all means you should hate me more, because unlike the volunteer worker who spends hours of their time trying to help save your life, I don't give a damn whether you live or die.

I only want those insights so that if my own child or grandchild feels suicidal in the future, I might use that insight to save their lives. They have value to me, not you.

Also I might write a self help book one day filled with such insights that will make me millions. Then I'll use that money to start a charitable foundation for suicide prevention (whose real purpose is to avoid taxes). Then I'll start my own suicide hotlines which are superior to the others. I'll drum up grassroots support for my brand of suicide prevention, and with the help of congressional lobbyists, get tons and tons of government funding. Then I'll start to expand overseas to Germany, China, and Japan.

I'll make billions of dollars, save millions of lives, have my name forever engraved into every psychology textbook, and be known to the general public as a pretty swell guy!
