CMV: Realistic graphics in video games are no longer amazing - they're boring now and detract from other possible priorities developers can focus on.

No, I'm rejecting your summary from a random dude based on my own contradictory experience.

You have no contradictory experience; this is not a matter of opinion. I already made the point; conquering the uncanny valley is not possible whatsoever at this point in time and will not be in any feasible time frame due to limitations in graphics rendering. I offered the link to a video that has a succinct explanation/expansion of this and ehy it is the case. You are trying your hardest to avoid offering any counterargument.

I have never contended that it's required, only that it's better than any alternative.

You I didn't say you did. I said that it's not required and detracts from other aspects that are more important while itself is a complete non-factor.

It's also far less likely to work against the story than "abstract" visuals.

You are wrong because the budget required for the art and programming required for greater and greater graphical realism is huge and takes away from other, more important areas for engaging the player, heck even bugtesting.

You oppose this by offering me games I've never heard of and about which I'm skeptical and are somehow confused when things I haven't seen are unconvincing.

You not having heard of them is completely irrelevant. Nobody cares what you have or haven't heard of. Anyone can say that about anything.

I make two basic contentions

After reading both, I preface by saying you have offered zero support for either.

1) all games would be better with improved graphic

1) You are assuming there is no opportunity cost to improved graphics, which is untrue.

2) This is an asinine statement in any case; you said games are an artistic medium, the interpretation and appreciation of art is subjective and the visual component of video games has just as much room for variation and expression as any other part of it. You are contradicting yourself.

2) video game stories are by and large better told in a realistic visual style.

You can't restate the same thing and act like it's two points. Both are completely unsupported and your entire argument is based on it.

That doesn't mean abstract is bad, it means realistic is better.

Stylised visuals are not necessarily abstract.
