CMV: Reddit should not allow subs such as /r/GasTheKikes and /r/CoonTown

I find your gross generalization of people disturbing. You are identifying people as black and white when this is not at all the case. "They are incapable of changing so fuck anything they say". This is just lazy and dismissive.

I agree that they might be able to change, and after they do they should be welcome back on Reddit.

On top of that why should it bother you and what "interaction" are you referring to? Your argument is to ban the place of refuge where these people wish to express their feelings? The only thing that accomplishes is pushing people to express their feelings in a more public environment.

I found my way to this subbredit somehow, didn't I? I wasn't seeking it out, I reached it through casual Reddit surfing. These subs are not isolated.

They have many refuges outside Reddit which, as far as I am concerned, they are welcome to keep.

Your argument is that you went onto a blatantly racist subreddit and behaved in a way which you knew would cause hatred to arise and you say "See! Look how they spread their hatred!" If it is really that big of a deal for you to receive negative responses in a situation like that I have an easy solution to end the debate: don't put yourself in that situation.

No, this is not my argument. Yup, I did do as you described, but that does nothing to discredit anything else I said. I only put up the screenshot as a demonstration. I never argued that they should be banned because they were mean to me on this particular instance.

All you're doing is furthering the separation between you and the other party, as is banning their ability to express themselves.

I don't feel that way because I think the separation is a priori not reconcilable.

I think the best route is to express positivity not narrow your scope to see the negativity and let it affect you so much that you think the only solution is to regulate it out of your thoughts. Extend compassion where they are unable to. Understand what circumstances led these people to behave the way they are. Bridge the gap so that they can better understand your world and potentially alter their own. The way to do this is not through instigating (or for that matter going to a circle jerk subreddit and demanding they stop). Realize the context of your approach and discussion.

I don't see why I should be expected to spare a single ounce of tolerance (not to mention compassion) towards people who actually, literally, want to put me in an oven (and glorify the people who actually, literally, put several of my relatives in an oven).
