I could not go to the movies with a friend.

You could if the friend was the same sex as you.

You could never take a person out on a date.

Why is that a bad thing?

I could not watch a child play a sporting event if the child was of a different gender. Etc.

Again, why is this a bad thing?

The amount of change and hinderance you are advocating is not acceptable.

None of it seems particularly stifling to me.
