CMV: Slipknot is bad.

I think those guys are intelligent in the sense that they can use their gimmick to sell their really great, well written, original, complex music to goofy teens that want to feel rebellious. So not only do they maintain their musical integrity but they enjoy success in their industry.

Their drummer is amazing.

Their rhythm guitar is amazing.

Their singer is very tallented.

Their lyrics, in a number of their songs (not all) are not only well written and interesting but (incoming cliche) profound and thought provoking. Vermilion Pt 2 talks about the obsessive nature of love that leads people to project fantastic delusions onto relationships. Some people fall so hard in love that they imagine that the person they're with (or lost) was more than they actually were. He goes on to talk about the cognitive dissonance he feels knowing that that's what he's doing.

On an opinion related note, I think it shows how immature you are to be so contemptuous towards fans of their music. It's one thing to feel indifferent to music you haven't really spent any time really experiencing or appreciating, but to have negative opinions of fans of a band you almost nothing about should be a little embarrassing. Sure, you've seen their costumes and you've heard the songs and you may even know the chorus to a number of them, but let's be real, that's about the extent of your exploration. I'd even further be willing to be you have very little (or more likely no) real experience with an instrument, especially one that might be used in their band. There is a huge aspect to this kind of music that just flies right over your head and it's disappointing to hear how arrogant some people can be while being so clueless.
