CMV: To support Trump requires a deep level of ignorance, the lack of basic knowledge and sympathy,

I don't know. Coming from a deep red state, I know a lot of people who voted for Trump. For some it may be because of "ignorance, the lack of basic knowledge and sympathy..." but there are other reasons as well. Some voted for him because they don't like liberals. Some voted for him because they like what he has to say and are nationalists and totally on bored with racist/xenophobic/anit-immigrant ideologies. I also know plenty of people who voted for him for no reason other than the assumed (correctly) that he would cut taxes.

You may argue that these reasons still fit your criteria, but in some sense all reasons all people vote would fit some of your criteria. As Keohane says in After Hegemony "To imagine that all available information will be used by a decisionmaker is to exaggerate the intelligence of the human species." Simply put, it is not humanly possible to make a perfectly informed decision on such matters because there is too much information available for a person to absorb and analyze.
