CMV: There's no reason for the United States to continue supporting Israel.

Right, I should note that I was attempting to distinguish rocket from mortar attacks, not diminish Israeli casualties overall. This might seem pedantic, but I think the two are intentionally conflated in order to provide large numbers alongside the image of more threatening Qassam or al-Quds rocket than the reality of the significantly weaker and less dangerous improvised shells. I believe U.S. military aid for Israel relies on no small part in keeping up this image of an israel under threat of thousands of such devices.

Mar 1, 2008 - 2 killed - mortars/rockets

St. Sgt. Doron Asulin, 20, of Beersheba and St. Sgt. Eran Dan-Gur, 20, of Jerusalem were killed in an exchange of fire with Hamas terrorists during an IDF anti-terror operation in northern Gaza targeting rocket launchings.

Yes, it also claims that there were "reportedly" mortar shells, antitank missiles and rockets fired at the IDF members but the MFA entry is clear that these soldiers were killed in an exchange of fire. You're being disingenuous on this claim.

Apr 9, 2008 - 2 killed - mortars

Apr 9, 2008 - Oleg Lipson, 37, and Lev Cherniak, 53, both of Beersheba, were killed when Palestinian terrorists, after firing a salvo of mortars at the Nahal Oz area, penetrated the fuel terminal and opened fire on the civilian employees.

Here, again, while MFA reports that mortars were present it also explicitly suggests were killed when terrorists opened fire.

Wiki refuses to allow it to be included, even though the deaths were confirmed to be due to mortars, because there were Palestinian gunmen present as well...

The source you provide doesn't do anything to suggest this was the principle cause of death.

You're looking at the discrepancies, and thinking it means someone's trying to make it look worse than it is, but in reality, it's simply certain data including only certain attacks, and others omitting it for whatever reason.

I'm trying to demonstrate that we shouldn't uncritically accept the official counts provided by a Government with a vested interest in skewing the presentation of data in a particular direction, and investigate any claims that rely on such information.
