CMV: UFOs are not evidence of aliens, and aliens are far less likely than any terrestrial explanation

History teaches us that the things we used to not understand, the things that seemed supernatural to us, were easily explainable in materialist terms.

Aliens aren’t supernatural but they fill that same spot in our minds so we’re tempted to entertain it. We truly have zero hard evidence for Santa Claus, Satan, Korean fan death, flat earth, and aliens but people want to believe so they do.

We want simple explanations and we want to see wonder in the universe. Reality is sort of boring though. The Drake equation is a silly thought experiment that illuminates nothing and gives us that dumb and dumber mindset of,

“So your saying there’s a chance?”

On the other hand we can’t prove that there aren’t aliens because you can’t prove a negative. Alien apologists have a lot of the same arguments as theists.

I can’t prove them wrong but I believe they’re wrong. Im a weak alien disbeliever because it would be foolish to be confident they’ve ever been here.

I think the size of the universe makes it unlikely life doesn’t exist elsewhere but the spaces in between make it seem unlikely that we’ll ever know for sure.
