As an older child, twelve years older, I did so much nanny-ing that any desire to have kids was destroyed by my two much younger siblings.

So I'm child free by choice.

However, do think that most women want a family but due to the economic prosperity of the west, not living in an agricultural based society, health care to ensure kids live and thrive, and birth control to prevent "oops", there are not many reasons for women in affluent countries to have multiple kids.

But women do prefer stable guys who have softer qualities for marriage and fatherhood versus the handsome womanizer who cheat and impregnate the other woman. This would take the resources of time, commitment and money from her child.
