@CNN: Bernie Sanders on "Bernie Bros" - "We don't want that crap...anyone supporting me who is doing sexist things, we don't want them, that's not what our campaign is about."

I think we can spot right here , taking your comment as an example, how this bernie bro phenomenon started. Reality is nuanced, and it is very rare to find someone that actually understands this. As a result, you've got a lot of black and white thinking going around. Depending on which group you belong to, the perception of being oppressed can actually be a form of power in 2016. This is a better state of things than letting oppression go unadressed, but at the same time, it has been used to censor, undermine, shame, and end otherwise valid discussion. All it takes is the person doing the shaming (in this case, you) to perceive a philosophical argument as an offensive one. When you do this, you automatically assume to know the other person's intent, and if their argument is opposed to yours the assumption is that they are [insert negative adjective]. Just a few cycles of this, and each group starts to hate each other more and more, insuring that next time there's going to be even less logic and even more hot heads. I'm not sure if you know this but most of our opinions are formed through emotional need, not logic. This is not about being smart or stupid, it's a matter of being an animal. The only way to really combat this is to be aware of it.

In this sub, I've rarely seen people being straight up sexist. What I've seen is certain people challenging some ideas that are held as sacred by the brand of activism that we see growing in college campuses. When these activists respond to these differences of opinion with disdain, the other side feels slighted, and it's only natural that a small percentage of them will react with inappropriate conduct. It's human nature and it happens with every group, not just white men. I think that's where the majority of the Bernie bro phenomenon is coming from. That, and the fact that it's almost impossible to not have a few bad people in any group you go to. I mean, what percentage of sexists is considered too high to undermine a presidential candidacy? If anything, people being worried about bernie bros should show that there are plenty of people belonging to this group that have disdain for sexist behavior, which is a good thing. After all, I guarantee you there are more sexists per capita in every single other Republican candidate's voter base, it's just that no one calls them out on it because the base doesn't have enough anti-sexists to even care. And sexism isn't the only evil in the world; I'm just as offended by the percentage of Clinton voters who don't take time to learn about how many times to Clinton has straight up lied, and then want to make her the leader of the most powerful country in the world. To me, stupidity and ignorance is just as bad as sexism, because those qualities determine the life quality of everyone else.
