LOL most of the years in the EPL saying 7 teams hoping for top 5 is a stretch lol.

Are you sure you follow the EPL? Every eyar you can expect any one of these teams to fight for European football:

  • Chelsea
  • Man City
  • Man Utd
  • Arsenal
  • Liverpool
  • Spurs

Then every year, you'll also get an unexpected team also challenging, such as:

  • Everton
  • Southampton
  • West Ham
  • Swansea

This year, both West Ham and Southampton were doing really well until recently.

Last year alone the 8th place team finished closer to the last place team in points than the 1st place team.

Yes because they weren't challenging for 1st place. They finished closer to 5th than last, i.e they were challenging for 5th. Also mid-table teams can generally be excluded from the fight for Europe and the relegation battle, because they aren't good enough to take points from the top teams, but aren't shit enough to lose to the bottom teams.

ATM the bottom 8 teams are within 10 points of each other.

Newcastle, West Brom and Everton aren't in the relegation battle though. Again, just because their points are similar doesn't mean that they can take points off of each other. Some teams have shite seasons (Everton currently for example) and others are just shite (Leicester, for example).

Ya maybe joke is a strong word but no way that united team should of finished 7th.

After losing their long term manager and half of their squad (Ferdinand, Giggs, Vidic etc.) you think they shouldn't have shown any drop in performance? You seem to be quite adamant about LoL teams sticking behind their coaches but you're more than happy to have a go at Moyes for something he couldn't have prevented. The entire team needed a overhaul and he did his best. Van Gaal is now just using what he implemented.

Just because the bottom 8 teams are close in points doesn't mean that all of the bottom 8 teams are in the relegation battle, primarily due to the fact that 3 or 4 of those teams can look to pick up a fair amount of points from their remaining games.

Also im using the EPL as an example, but this is a good representative of most of Europe. It might be different in America due to how 'young' the sport is and how certain teams attract players that want to retire from European Football, giving them a blatant advantage in the league (LA Galaxy, for example).
