Coffee drinkers wanted to sit at my table at the coffee shop... and wanted me to move.

I was in Paris years ago and went into a restaurant by myself. Since the place was mostly full the waiter seated me at a large table that still had a couple empty seats along with a group of people who were already sitting there eating. (A practice I was quite familiar with in Paris restaurants and which was and maybe still is 100% normal there.)

As it turns out it was an American tourist family at the table who then started freaking out that I was being seated at "their" table. The waiter looked at them with a well used sarcastic smile said to them with condescending French accented English that it was actually the restaurants table and they would be free to leave if they weren't satisfied with their food or service. He then asked them if they needed anything else and after a few seconds of silence he asked me my order, which I gave in French.

I had to bite my tongue to stop laughing after he walked away. The family continued to quietly rant amongst themselves of how horribly they were being treated, the whole time just smiling and nodding at me assuming I didn't speak English.

When they finally left, I looked up at them and with as fake a Southern USA accent as I could muster I said, "I hope y'all have a nice day now y'hear!" and gave them a huge shit eating grin. They really had no idea how to respond and slowly walked away with utterly bewildered looks on their faces. The waiter gave me a big smile and I just started to chuckle and went on to finish my lunch.
