Colleges shouldn’t have to meet diversity standards

I disagree. I’m Asian, and I went to an Asian college (where 50% of students were Asian). I didn’t enjoy my time there compared to my high school and later university where there was way more diversity.

I’d rather be surrounded by fellow classmates with different perspectives and backgrounds with lower academic scores than a homogeneous group with all excellent scores.

But you see, that’s my preference. I fit in better at a school like Harvard than Caltech. Some others like you might thrive in an environment with all high performing Asians. For that, there’s Caltech, Berkeley and many others. The point is if you make all schools like Caltech and Berkeley, then which school would be good for people like me who enjoy a diverse and holistic experience?

I think what’s going on with the backlash against Harvard by Asians is due to students caring too much about school rankings. A lot of people apply to Harvard because it’s arguable the most prestigious school. That’s not a good reason. You should apply to Harvard only because you think it’s a good fit, and that it would be a good environment for you to thrive in.
