Colorado appeals court rules scent of marijuana not enough to search vehicle

We entrust police with the power to use their judgment to apply the rule of law. Police need oversight and accountability, but still need to be able to do their jobs. The solution to police abusing their power or taking short cuts at the expense of the public is to hold the officers that do these things accountable- not by kneecapping the police.

If a cop walks up to a car that reeks of alcohol or weed smoke (which has a distinct smell from just weed), he should be able to investigate if he thinks it's needed or appropriate. Someone driving dangerously high shouldn't get off the hook just because the officer searched them because he knew he was smoking but this isn't admissable anymore.

We do? I don't because they abuse their power and have killed far too many innocent kids, babies, adults, etc. Anyone with power needs to have checks and balances. Police should always fear people and do everything to serve the public. They are our servants they work for us and we should be able to take away their powers in a second.

Yeah but citing something that can not be tested for or confirmed is too much of a grey area. If you smell alcohol or cannabis use a Breathalyzer if he passes that it say thank you sir have a great day and let the citizen go.
