Colorado caucusers shout down senator and super delegate with chants of "change your vote"

Sorry to double-comment on this post, but I think the thing that effected our parents a lot was the mess of the 80's and Reagan dismantling the country. Then Bush. The Bill Clinton. It was scandal the government fucking everyone over repeatedly. In Chicago we saw the direct effect of the mentally ill being put back onto the streets and the rise of crime, homelessness, the crack epidemic, and AIDS was huge. Corporate America was thriving and our parents were working their asses off and just getting fucked repeatedly by the government. It's why so many people in their generation think "they're all crooks". That's a quote from my mom who is a Clinton supporter. There is no reasoning with them.

My dad was born in '57 and my mom in '64. They're not quite boomers, but they've grown up with shit politicians except for Jimmy Carter who they were taught through propaganda to blame for everything. My parents at least are kind of sympathetic to our generation, but they do not understand how much harder it really is. They worked hard to put money aside for retirement and lost it in the 2008, so they see that as worse than anything I could possibly be dealing with. They don't understand why I don't take vacations, or go out, or haven't bought a house because that's what I'm 'supposed' to be doing at this age. They don't get that I work my ass off to barely cover my student loans... and I'm relatively successful compared to most people our age and make more than they do.

It's frustrating to explain to them that they need to vote for Sanders for kids today and not to vote for themselves- especially if they think Clinton is a "crook." I've shown them how Sanders wants to expand benefits and stuff which will effect them too, but they think 'something is off' about him and that he's a crook too. It's maddening. There is no reasoning with them.

The bright side to all of this is that in public polling the majority of the public is for progressive legislation when the pollsters do not attribute the policies to a party. We've seen how much the electorate has changed in just 15 years as older generations tap out. 8 more years and they will have no power as a voting block anymore. Hell maybe even in just 4 years.

I also tried explaining to them that Obama wanted to cut into social security, which he did, and that Clinton is to the right of Obama. Then the fact that in America, life expectancy is dropping while the age for social security is rising. It won't be there for me or kids graduating today when they need it because they won't qualify until after they're dead. This is the path we're on as a country and that they'll have to learn how to live on 11k/year on social security if Clinton wins. They think I don't know what I'm talking about though despite the fact that I used to actually work for the Senate and have worked around both candidates and that I know for a fact that Sanders means it and that Clinton is... well, let's keep this civil. She's an authoritarian who is always right, even when she is wrong and any advice that doesn't back-up her point of view is unacceptable.

Meanwhile, my dad wants to try using pot for medical reasons, but won't because it is illegal. I've tried talking him into it anyway and that I'd get it for him, but he won't. Clinton won't do anything about it because of pharma donations, but Sanders absolutely would. I've heard rumors from people I used to work with that Obama might reschedule it on his way out the door though. So here is hoping that he redeems himself a little.
