Is Columbia college that bad?

You've probably already done your research but just in case, bctransferguide.ca is a great resource on schools and what transferrable programs/courses they offer.

I did attend Columbia some time ago but only for two semesters. It was a neutral experience, nothing memorable but nothing to complain about either. I eventually transferred to an actual university so in the grand scheme of things the choice of college made little difference. So my suggestion is, if you are planning to transfer to a university, it doesn't matter much what college you go to (as long as the courses you take are all transferrable), unless the college has a "bridge" program (essentially a partnership) with a university where the university accepts all the courses you took at that particular college and as long as you meet their admission criteria, you can automatically start from second or third year at the university.

Otherwise, if you're not planning to go to university and only want to stick with an associate degree in CS from a college, I'd aim for BCIT (e.g. their highly popular CST program), Langara, or Capilano. If you can't attend those right now and Columbia is your only option to stay and study in Canada, then it is what it is. Preferably transfer as soon as you can (again check to make sure your courses are transferrable so you don't waste money).
