A comic about sleep disorder. [oc]

Well for the first option if everyone already knows it then there is absolutely no reason to dismiss it at all. For the anecdotal thing, that's true much of the time, but a person who's gone what you've gone through giving you management or coping advice shouldn't be thrown away either. It's not a magical cure, but they never claim it is and it can help people even if it doesn't work for you personally.

Elaborating on that last point, I remember a post on that sub of a person giving really sound and really basic advice (as in advice exactly what therapists and psychiatrists would give you) on managing depression. Half the people in the comment section recognized this same advice given from their therapists, but one person was trying to dismiss it because it didn't work for them, that they sometimes struggled for hours on end to get out of bed and could barely muster the energy to feed him/herself sometimes. What this person failed to realize is that not everyone's depression is that sever nor are all of their mental health problems the same. People on that sub fail to realize that what didn't work for them might work for someone else and dismissing it all as bullshit can really harm people reading that.
