I get it

Welcome to Washington! My husband and I just moved out here from NYC this past September. We are an interracial household I’m Latina and he’s black. We had to travel from where we live in Redmond to downtown Seattle to get him a haircut. People out here don’t really mean harm they don’t realize what they say at times because they’re not used to having as much diversity around. We get stared at sometimes when we go to the supermarket or go shopping. Also, my daughter has curls for days and sometimes people pop up out of nowhere wanting to touch her hair and that makes my NYC side come out in full force but they mean well and just have to be educated but that’s all. Bartells Drug store (?) sells Shea moisture, Cantu, and some other products I can’t seem to recall and that’s where we typically get hair product for both my husband and daughter. Target also has a decent amount of hair product. We’ve found one good soul food spot in Seattle called “The Comfort Zone” and I’ve seen a couple of hair salons that cater to all different hair types owned by a black woman as well. My husband also works for a tech company and we wanted to stay in Redmond because you get to get away from the loud city. If you need any help feel free to PM! May your move be as smooth as possible and I hope you enjoy Washington as much as we do!
