Was it common for married couples to have separate twin beds?

My parents rarely ever slept in the same bed or even the same room. My mother was a first shifter and my father a third shifter so their schedules really never lined up anyways so my mother slept in the master bedroom and my father had a room made up in the basement as a den with a bed. That way in his nights off he could watch movies while mom slept. They got along great and were married till he died. They enjoyed each other’s company but I just don’t think given their different work schedules it made much sense for them to share a room.

With that being said I later found out this wasn’t all that uncommon. My father also snored really badly which likely also drove my mother mad. I think in the end it was far more common than a lot of people think and is sometimes just the product of being more practical than anything else.
