‘Companies will do everything but pay you a living wage’: McDonald’s blasted for offering conditional ‘free iPhone’ to incentivize applicants

This is a outright lie. It was productivity only and not inflation. Including the word inflation is pure propaganda.

$11.39 is the inflation adjusted alone, and productivity has doubled since 1968. So about $24.

If that wrongs though, and the productivity figure isn’t adjusted for inflation that would mean adjusting for both makes it more than $24 not less. See how adjusting for inflation increases the figure, as money is worth less over time.

So unless you’re saying that I have a figure too low, I’m not sure what your point is here.

Comparing min wage to productivity is also terrible. The only way wages could keep up with productivity is if the standard of living remained constant. So cars, TVs, computers etc would never improve as all the more efficient methods of producing them would be diverted to wages instead of making a better product. For example in the last 20 years cars have remained almost exactly the same relative price. All that improved productivity went into making better cars instead of cheaper ones.

Productivity measures the $ value of goods produced per working hour. In the past 50 years the value created by an hour of work has doubled.

That money exists, and it’s in the hands of someone- but most doesn’t go to workers. It’s mostly going to the owners of capital (stocks) and landowners.
