Complete beginner shooting on film, is this a great deal?

I would not recommend it. Some film shooters might disagree, but I think one of the huge benefits from digital is that you can really try out things and instantly see what they do. With film you will always need time to see the results and waste film for experiments.

When I got my first camera with manual contol a few years back I tried so many things. I wanted to see the effect of apperture, shutter time and all settings by my own. I did a few thousand pics in the first days only to get a technical understanding for the camera, basically only from my family, cat, flowing water from the water tap... In film this would have cost me more then a digital camera in film. :D
