Complying was never an option.

This might not be the whole story, but it seems like a lot of it: https://youtu.be/lDaNU7yDnsc

Even if the story was better than it seems in this video, I don't know how a no-knock raid in plain clothes makes any sense on a warrant granted because she used to date a man they now are arresting for dealing drugs? No drugs at her house. But let's even grant that the warrant was justified, why burst into the apartment in the middle of the night with a no-knock raid? Did they think she was a fellow drug kinpin with armed resistence? No, even on their telling, they "thought" her ex-boyfriend might have been keeping drugs at her apartment. How does that turn into a bunch of non-SWAT yahoos carrying out a raid pretending to be badasses? One of them literally shoots into the apartment blindly "at the muzzle flashes" which were from his fellow cops.

There was no reason for her to die because there was no reason for warrant, the raid itself, or the no-knock plainclothes version of a raid. Two cops coulda just walked up and knocked on the door and after answering they would have executed the warrant and found nothing. They broke into the house and got shot at once by a homeowner not knowing who is breaking into his house.

If you want to blame the system, okay. I'll give that to you for the lower ranking officers involved, but someone pushed for this warrant and this raid. Whoever instigated this whole situation deserves to be held responsible.
