Computer Science Data Science Double Major

Just want to share my experience, I had a Bachelors in CS, did 1 YoE as research assistant in Deep learning. Finding jobs out there, from Backend ML Systems to Data scientist.

You likely would not touch ML modelling if you do not have an advanced degree or did not graduate from target school. In future your growth in this area is dependent on your research experiences.

MLE also differs based on role, and most won’t touch ML/Deep learning. The job posts are changing their descriptions, MLE splits into MLE and Research Engineer. You can now apply for MLE because it touches more of backend/devops.

My 5cents is that, depends on the subfield of AI you are interested in. There might be a longer runway for a career dealing with backend systems, so to just focus on CS, and then just know abit of ML is sufficient for breaking into ML field.
