The concept of class is often avoided in public debate, but it's essential for understanding inequality

Ok let’s take a step back. The article is about inequality. Equality of course takes many forms, opportunity and outcome being the main two. Opportunity of course breaks down in many ways: entry to institutions, chance for promotion etc etc

What I’m saying is that, when it comes to determining equality of opportunity, the socio economic status of a person is a more relevant variable than the race of the person. For example, a wealthy Aboriginal person will be able to confer more opportunities on their offspring than a poor white person. In Australia, a wealthy Indian Australian will experience more opportunity than a poor Italian person.

To use race as a proxy for opportunity may be fine at a societal level, but it tells you almost nothing about any individual case.

You can tell me how far apart we are there.
