El Presidente addressed the nation from the National Congress, this declaration of war had taken us by surprise but nonetheless we were foolish to believe that Cono Sur was honest when they claimed to expand peacefully. All of Congress was in attendance and journalists from across Latin America and the world were present. There was furious representatives from all across Gran Colombia in anger over this ordeal. The room was silent when El Presidente spoke, however.
Today we have been betrayed. The illegitimate government of Cono Sur has gone behind our backs and have attacked our loyal friend Chile.
Shouts from all across the room rose, the anger could be felt deep within all politicians in the large hall. El Presidente raised his hand and all were quiet again.
In Gran Colombia we do not tolerate acts of aggression against our friends. We have no place for such acts, but at the mercy of our wrath! We will mobilise our army! We will fight the Cono Sur cowards on the field! And we will crush them!
The hall shouted in unison; "¡Guerra! ¡Guerra! ¡Guerra! ¡Guerra! ¡Guerra!..." with El Presidente shouting over them.
I DEMAND FROM THIS CONGRESS, ON THE BEHALF OF THE PEOPLE OF CHILE AND GRAN COLOMBIA THAT WE VOTE TODAY IN FAVOUR OF WAR AGAINST CONO SUR! WE WILL PUSH THE AGGRESSORS BACK AND WILL MAKE THEM PAY DEARLY FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE!
The Congressmen voted, both in the Senate and the Chamber of Representatives. In what is no doubt a historic day for Gran Colombia, both houses voted unanimously for war.
The Following Message was broadcasted to the government of Cono Sur later that day:
Gran Colombia responds to this declaration of war with one of our own, Cono Sur will rue this day! We have an alliance and we will stick to it. You have left us no choice, be prepared.

The Gran Colombian Naval Infantry have been told to remain on standby and the Armada de Gran Colombia is prepared to protect Chilean waters. The 1st Brigade of the Airborne division has been told to be ready to deploy as soon as their training is over.

Do not rescue any Cono Surese sailors.
