Conservationist calls for a cap on visitors to Banff National Park

I've lived in Canmore (15 minutes from Banff) for about 5 years, my partner for 20. While the ridiculous level of people is certainly not a good thing for anyone but the gift shop and tour operators, a cap is an unfortunately unrealistic solution. The only realistic answer I can see is to continue to accommodate access to the most well trodden areas, while doing everything possible to lower the impact to areas outside of the popular ones.

I mean, the places I go i'm lucky to see more than a few people (if anyone) even on a long weekend. And i'm talking more popular local spots. But I don't frequent the busy spots.

It is going to be painful for a while, but there really isn't any other option considering the TCH cuts right through... there will always be a lot of people there. Keeping them funneled into specific areas is the best solution I think, things like local gondolas, buses, and large paid parking areas are options that should be explored.
