Conservative Lawmakers Are Attempting to Steal the Votes of Thousands of Native Americans

Except the contention is that having an ID to vote is unconstitutional if you have to pay for it

So that seems to be the fight that needs to happen. IDs should be free and tax funded. This seems like a perfect opportunity for a politician to push a program like that.

A lot of reservations don't have street addresses everywhere.

I have a PO box with a service that looks like a real address. Maybe the tribe can provide the same thing as a service if the law goes into immediate effect.

Re: IDs - this one is tricky. This one seems the most difficult to get around. Could your partner really travel abroad with the tribal card, or is it more for like Mexico and Canada travel?

You're being a bit extreme with this somewhat-rhetorical question.

I disagree. I think the definition of extreme is getting extreme. I obviously don't know how it works on a reservation, but in the rest of the country it's very difficult to participate without a valid ID. You can't work, you can't drive, you can't buy any restricted items, you can't fly. Outside of not wanting to show an ID for political reasons, there's not much of an excuse. Even if price and travel are an issue, like the poorest folks in rural Alabama, there is opportunity for charitable minded people to get involved. Some of the folks screaming voter suppression can get involved. It's too easy to cry online instead of acting IRL.

I think Americans are the odd ones out in the world for not having nationalized IDs. It seems that if anyone really wanted to fix the problem we'd just switch to that system. You know it's a good idea because the right and the left both hate the concept.

Thank you for the response
