Conservative MP Tony Clement admits to multiple acts of infidelity

Would it have prevented him from doing his job

I would argue yes, given that you accept re-election is a major motivator for politicians. The conservative voting image appeals to traditional ideals, such as fidelity and sobriety. There is a reasonable expectation that when a politician is conducting himself opposite to that image which they appeal to during campaign, there is a sense of shame and desire to hide that behaviour - ammunition for extortion and removing representation of the people as a primary driver for their duties.

As an aside, his conduct warranted police involvement and he refused to adjust after police intervention. That's not someone you want as an MP at all.
