Conservative MPs opposed a motion to condemn Islamophobia in 2017. After the London hate crime, advocates say their condolences ring hollow

Other Conservatives suggested they were uncomfortable with the term “Islamophobia,” warning that the motion singled out Islam instead of condemning all religious discrimination. The text of the motion does, in fact, condemn all forms of religious discrimination.

From the article. The Liberals have heaps of issues on this same subject but I do think that the party as a whole has called out ALL forms of bigotry more consistently than the Conservatives

To even suggest that people voting no on a very questionable motion has any effect on anything is silly at best

I think more broadly it definitely has an effect. The government hasn’t really been active on this and the parties are very conflicted in their messaging

That’s not to say one message or another could literally prevent a tragedy but I think in general we could definitely set our country down a better path with stronger condemnations and policy
