Why is this contagious?

Why can't players throw a fireball whilst the BBEG is talking? I struggle with this but perhaps it is just me. May i ask some questions?

  • doesn't the BBEG have a massive target painted on them for a large number of sessions?

  • if the BBEG is a VERY evil creature, won't it be setting the players up while it talks?

  • why is anyone supposed to trust a Chaotic creature, let alone an evil one?

  • aren't players allowed to make choices? How sacred is this Railroad process that most of Reddit seems to advocate?

Consensus seems to be that the players have to sit and wait until the Dungeon Master makes his Big Speech. As if the BBEG is some kind of DM-NPC and screw the whole party - and the horse they rode in with. I find this perspective frustrating.

Above, the top-voted under-post is 'May i please interrupt the speech?' Like getting permission to go to the bathroom in public school. You guys really play a different game. It seems like the Dungeon Master has a LOT of dominance-control over the players and really seem to dislike players making choices.

I have gotten a lot of flame over this shit, so i get that i cannot change your minds on this. But wow - we certainly had a lot more open-minded and flexible game-masters back in my day! Apparently i am the grognard for saying 'reward players for taking initiative'.

Normally i am quite cheerful about stuff you guys post. Honest! Look at my history. You guys are great. But this thing? It can just go copulate itself.
