No, don't expect much new stuff on the tank front. The Pz III and the T70 were a blessing but even they aren't fully fleshed out, RO2's scope is infantry centered. Tanks compliment it to a degree.

I I love RO2's tanks, but they are definitely a secondary feature. Shit, Gumrak ('the' tank map) has been bugged since the last patch (months). It's got like a 50/50 chance of setting one of the teams to a negative number of reinforcements.

Arad tends to play like junk.

Demyansk and Barashka are cool mixed maps than feature tanks more prominently, but I rarely see them picked.

There's a lot of places to lay blame for the unpopularity of tanks in RO2, I'll highlight a few in an effort to show how they stack up to a poor RO2 tank experience. I feel that the UI holds some blame. Many new players allow a crew when selecting. Then they spawn with another player or two filling positions. They can't communicate for shit, no one has a mic. If they do, no one knows that squad voice is the in tank only com channel so either they spam the team or remain silent. All of them get frustrated and blame the tanks. The 'fix' is terrible. If you reselect the role, but say no crew. Yuo will kick them out..... On your next respawn. Good luck getting to the front so you can die if your driver is a fucktard or AFK. Very few people know that you can open the console (" ` ", button with this squiggle on top " ~ ") and type suicide. Oh yea, make sure you reselect tank commander and no crew when dead. It like to forget if you do it while still alive.

Then lets say you get a tank to yourself on gumrak... Where do you go? To your front is white, to your left is white. to your right is white. Look at the ground. It's fucking white. Some tread mark decals that lead to objectives/cover/flanking paths would do absolute wonders to help new players. This could also be accomplished by improving the full screen map. Mark it up and write shit on it. Label some buildings in obj. C Train station North, South, ETC. Add some color or features to the buildings to help make things stand out too. Anything to aide players in navigating that endless white nonsense.

For Arad, something needs to give regarding the spawns and cap zones. It's way to easy for 1-2 players who know what to do to quickly cap the field and then the town. The size of Arad makes it almost impossible to respond to a cap in progress. This means teams have to know what to do, reactionary play loses the map and reactionary play is all that can be expected of most players, especially given how uncommon it is to play Arad.

Driving the tanks themselves is simply not fun to a lot of people. I have a blast, but there is definitely a learning curve that drives people away. I play tank often, and still have massive trouble dealing with AT rifles. It's like the hit indicator is useless. Sometimes it shows hits from impossible directions. The tunnel vision of the T34 doesn't help. The P4 is a bit better for optics and you can use the cupola for awareness.... if your head isn't blown off through it.

Lastly, there really needs to be a way to switch positions on a full tank for the soviets. So damn annoying. trying to trade roles. A fully crew tank is a blast, but it's annoying to be stuck in a single role because your tank filled. I like to offer my driver/MGgunner a chance on the gun. At least on the P4/P3 you have enough slots to jump around.
