[CONTRARIAN] Why you shouldn't freak out about New York Magazine's global warming cover story

Yet another completely misplaced reaction to the New York magazine article.

In this "contrarian" piece, the writer writes:

"All of this is scary. However, climate scientists nearly universally say that there is still time to avert the worst consequences of global warming, and that this message needs to be driven home again and again in order to encourage leaders to act."

Two blatantly obvious things. (1) The only way to "avert the worst consequences" is to take action, which we're clearly not doing. In fact, we're taking so many actions to make things WORSE. And (2) "Driving home this message" that we're not taking action is what the New York article was all about.

The New York article said outright that its claims are what will happen if we don't take drastic action.'

Right now, there are more NEW coal mines being built, there are more NEW oil pipelines being built, there are more NEW gas fracking wells being built. And right now representatives from nations and oil companies are planning how they'll divvy up the Arctic for more NEW oil-drilling operations once the ice disappears.

This is all so idiotic. We deserve what's coming.
