Cop/security guard rant

The comments here are frustrating. I’m a security director for a large resort, but pick up some shifts at a hospital in their security department. The amount of training required made me reevaluate our training at my full time job.

I’m sure the ones with the bitter comments have had bad experiences with Police and Security. Sure. Do these particular Cops and Security sound like idiots? Yup. But “typical” and “acab” ? No.

Throughout a very lengthy career in EMS and Security management (management as in counter terrorism strategies, consulting for government etc. not “Paul Blart” Mall cop shit) I’ve known some really dedicated and awesome Police Officers. I’ve also known some shit ones.

Throughout EMS and my side gig at the hospital, I know some great nurses and some real shit ones. How often do we arrive to something to figure out the Nurse used zero compassion, deescalation techniques or anything else? Daily. Do I blame the nurse? Unless it’s particularly egregious. No. Do I immediately hop on and shout “ANAB! all nurses are bitches?” Sure don’t.

If you’ve had a bad experience with Police, Security or whoever else. Report it. There’s someone in the chain of command that cares. I’ve fired employees for shit like this. Gaffing shit off. Terminated, and reported to the state agency that oversees security licensing. But I don’t make rash generalizations about a group of 1.5 Million cops and security guards. Nor do I generalize the 3.8 nurses in the US because some act shitty.
