Cops of reddit: if you are giving someone a ticket, what things would you actually want to hear/see; that would = greatest chance of you being merciful?

He yelled at me like my old Drill Sergeants did. Then proceeded to tell me to get the fuck out of his face and hold my self to higher standards and slow the fuck down.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather have a polite and cordial officer who gives me a ticket, then a fucking dick who wants to power trip, yell, and degrade me.

I've been pulled over three times in my life.

Two times by city cops. They were very friendly and very polite. They still gave me tickets.

The one time I didn't get a ticket was when I was pulled over by a state trooper.

He completely degraded me and made it a point to show me how much power he had, and how little I had.

Granted I was speeding, I was going around 80 in a 65, but I was keeping up with traffic. He picked me out to pull over though.

He marched up to my car, and immediately flipped out because my window was only half way down and not all of the way down.

Right away he accused me of not putting it down all of the way because I was smoking pot in the car (I wasn't). In reality, I just had it half way down as I was driving, and didn't think it was a big deal to not lower it more considering we could easily have a conversation and exchange information at the level it was.

At that point he walked over to the passenger side, opened the door, and started looking around my car. My first thought was that was an extremely stupid thing to do on his part. He basically knelt on the edge of the seat and started looking under it while leaving me sitting the driver seat.

If I were a criminal and wanted to kill him, he never would have saw it coming.

I said to him, "I don't give you permission to be in my car right now. I'm not allowing you to search it.

That got me a "The fuck you say to me boy?"

He jumped up, ran around back to my side, opened my door and told me to get the fuck out. He dragged me to the back of my car, threw me against it, and cuffed me. Then he grabbed me again, took me to the front, and threw me down on my hood. He told me to stay laying on my hood while he ran my info.

I was there a good 15 minutes freaking out before he came back.

He then insisted I again I had been smoking pot and made me do a field sobriety test. I messed up a couple things because I was nervous as hell and every time he screamed and berated me and told me I was going to fucking jail.

Eventually he told me I was "fucking disgrace" and if he ever saw me speeding on "his" highway again it would be "the last fucking time I ever got the chance."

So yeah.

I'll take a $200 ticket, and five years with a higher insurance premium over being "let off" by a cop like that.
