My ex is involved with identity theft and sextortion. It's big business. Victims and whistleblowers are made out to be lunatics via smear campaigns and framed as criminals. This includes crimes against children, which means children are actually exploited.

This means the victims appear to be the actual scumbags while the actual criminals lead what appear to be a rather ordinary life (aside from the odd expensive merchandise they accrue). Victims encounter unprovoked and violent police intimidation. Sometimes the harassment goes on for years, and oftentimes the victims aren't even aware as to why they are being terrorized. The end result is victims can't file reports with the authorities, and they are harassed to the point of suicide.
