Italy recently had a far right government I believe, and since 2014 with the refugee crisis, Italy has been the main route for refugees coming in from the Middle East and the Sahel region of Africa that are collapsing. Preventing the refugees from getting ashore is a concern for Italy and the methods they're using is an open dirty secret. European countries are paying warlords in Libya to capture refugees and lock them up where they're often raped, tortured, and reduce to slavery. Elsewhere, the European countries are trying to prevent NGOs from rescuing refugees stranded at sea. Dead people are always washing up on beaches on the Mediterranean.
