Could Black Panther be the highest grossing film made by a black director starring a black protagonist?

I don't wanna write another long comment explaining what I mean (my last comment was really long). When I said audiences, I meant white people. I think a lot of white people just think The Rock is Samoan and as such they don't see a black person. I have known a lot of white folk who think Vin Diesel is just Italian.

Within the context of Black Leading Men, if white audiences view them as not black but rather non white then does it count?

Please also note the use of "not clearly identified" as in one of the top searches for both of those actors are questions about their specific ethnicity.

I get what you are saying though. For example I am gay. Luke Evans (beauty and the beast, dracula untold etc) is also openly gay. Gay people know he is gay. He doesn't really talk about it and A LOT of straight folk don't know the actor is gay. If I were discussing big budget super successful movies with openly LGBTQ actors, I would say "well ya, Luke Evans has been in all these movies, including one of the Furious movies, but does he count if straight people don't know he is gay?"

I made this comment way too long. What I'm trying to say is "if middle america thinks Wentworth Miller is a straight white dude, does he count as a black gay man the same way that Titus Burgess does in the context of representation?"
